We affectionally call the following furniture makeover The Mackenzie Console. We found this two piece hutch at an estate sale for a great price. This piece was solid and heavy and it came with some amazing details. But that original cream colored finish was bleh! This piece was definitly a great candidate for paint!
Rather then paint the pieces and then put them back together, we opted to turn the base of the hutch into a stand alone media console. It lacked height so we made the decision to add legs to the base.
To prepare the bottom for legs, we removed the damaged base trim and sanded it smooth.
Then, we measured and cut a board to size and attached it with wood glue, brad nails and a nail gun. We took measurements for the legs, pre-drilled holes and then screwed them in.
This quick and simple way gives your piece of furniture some height AND a high end custom look. The prep work is finished and is ready for some PAINT!
We painted this buffet/media console in Country Chic Paint's Nocturnal (one of their furniture paint colors from their 2016 Fall/Winter limited edition paint colors) then dry brushed some Vanilla Frosting and Pocket Watch metallic cream over the detailed high points to give it a little aged European flair.
Isn't the Nocturnal paint color gorgeous? It is a beautiful rich dark grey hue with green mossy undertones. It's only available for a limited time. If you miss the order Gravel Road from Dixie Belle Paint Company would be a lovely close second.
