I still can't believe that it's April! I love Arizona in the Spring. (Okay, let's be real. I love Arizona, period.) But, especially right now! Currently, we are enjoying the most amazing smelling orange blossoms and fresh limes, lemons, oranges and grapefruits are drooping heavy on the trees. It's a great time to come visit! Fresh orange juice anyone? Okay, how about some freshly squeezed ice cold limeade/lemonade? Twist my arm, I say! ;)

April 2016 Theme: "Original Elegance"
Submission Deadline: Friday, April 22nd @ 11:59 PM EST
Sponsored By: Pure & Original
PRIZE PACKAGE:
$1,000 Worth Of Pure & Original Products
Did you see the prize package? Isn't it unbelievable!? Sure wish I could enter! ;) Nah, I love to see our talented and clever DIY bloggers show off their stuff and I can't wait to see the lovely furniture flips they'll come up with! Here's a little piece I transformed using Pure & Original Classico paint...
I'm calling her The Nadine Cabinet.
Somebody thought the top of this hutch was worthless. Apparently its missing bottom and broken mirror backing was a deal breaker. I say it's workable! This discarded piece just needed some legs, a new backing and some paint and it had the potential to be elegant and stately!
The first step was to remove the remaining mirrors and backing from the hutch. Not just for safety concerns but because having access to both sides also makes it so much easier to clean and paint!
Once the piece was cleaned it was time to address the leg issue. This particular piece had a thin strip of molding along the base with a hollow interior and nothing for the legs to really "grab" onto. For added security and strength, we flipped the piece upside down and added a quarter inch pine board to the bottom.
Adhered it with a strong wood glue and attached it to the base with screws. To fix the "seam" edging along our pine board, we covered all of the sides with wood filler, then sanded it down to give it a more smooth finish.
We purchased these square tapered legs from our local big box hardware store to match the style and shape of our cabinet. However, there are a variety of places that offer a wide selection of legs for furniture projects. These legs came pre-drilled with screws already in place.
We measured for leg placement before pre-drilling our holes into our new wood base. Then, we smeared some of that same wood glue to the top of each leg and twisted the legs into place.
Now, that most of messy work was completed it was time to paint! We selected two colors from Pure & Original- Thunder Sky for the exterior and Ashes for the interior of our newly formed cabinet. Both of these complimentary colors gave me wonderful coverage. Thunder Sky is the perfect shade of warm gray and Ashes is a very light warm taupe/gray.. and one of my new favorite colors!
After a little bit of work, this stand alone hutch is now an elegant and versatile cabinet. Perfect for storing nice dishes or displaying favorite art pieces, knick knacks and books.
The Nadine Cabinet in all her glory...
Can't even tell we added an extra board to the bottom, can ya!? ;)
What a difference Pure & Original Classico Paint makes!
If you're contemplating trying Pure & Original Classico paint, now is the time to try!
